As outlined in the World Health Assembly resolution WHA60.29, the WHO Department of Essential Health Technologies , Diagnostics Imaging and Medical Devices Team (DIM) aims to ensure improved access, quality and use of safe and appropriate medical devices in line with Primary Health Care Reform.
EuroScan International Network and the WHO Department of Essential Health Technologies signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in December 2010. The MoU outlines how EuroScan will contribute to the delivery of the resolution.
During 2010 and again in 2011, EuroScan collaborated with the WHO, contributing towards the Global Initiative on Health Technologies. The GIHT aims to support the international community in establishing a framework for the development of national health technology programmes and encourages the business and scientific communities to identify and adapt “innovative” technologies that can have a significant impact on public health in developing countries.
EuroScan contributed by acting as an external advisor for its call for innovative health technologies that address global health concerns (http://www.who.int/medical_devices/innovation/en/ ). The call resulted in a Compendium of New and Emerging tecnologies that address global health concerns http://www.who.int/medical_devices/innovation/new_emerg_tech/en/index.html
